Driving home on the Thruway should be a breeze – for now

thruway21Are you driving home on the New York State Thruway after Thanksgiving break?

Or are you getting ready to travel I-90 as soon as classes let out for winter break?

Either way, your trip back to school or home for break should be a breeze.

There had been plans to repave 15 miles of the state Thruway between Interstate 690 and Weedsport, but they’ve been put on hold until the spring, The Post-Standard reported today.large_thruway

Although there won’t be construction crews out on the 65-mph highway slowing you down, the Thruway Authority is reporting on its Web site that traffic in the White Plains area is slow-going tonight as many, many motorists return from their long Thanksgiving break.

Here’s what the Web site says:

“HEAVY, SLOW MOVING TRAFFIC ON I-87 NORTHBOUND BETWEEN EXIT 8 (I-287 WHITE PLAINS) AND EXIT 11 (NYACK RT 9W). Motorists should plan for extended delays. Motorists familiar with the area may wish to seek alternate routes to avoid delays.”

Well, at least there’s nothing other than a little bit of snow to slow traffic down near Syracuse.
