How To: Survive Thanksgiving with the Family

With your entire family in one place, it can get kind of crazy. It wouldn’t be a family holiday with out a fight right? When I went to Google and typed in, “Survive Thanksgiving with the Family,” more than 2.6 million articles were found. So I guess it’s a pretty hot issue, and a lot of people need help surviving their own families at the holidays.


Well, if you want to try to avoid that annual fight at the dinner table, here’s a few ways to do so.

The Top 10 Dos and Don’ts for a good Thanksgiving with the Family.

1. Do Forget Perfection


2. Do Be Flexible

3. Don’t try to change anyone

4. Do Let people help. You don’t have to do everything yourself

5. Do Respect Your Differences

6. Don’t Criticize

7. Do Accommodate Special Dietary Needs. Provide a few extra options for vegetarians, and Don’t be insulted if they don’t eat everything.

8. Don’t Drink Too much. Alcohol can make dealing with difficult people even more difficult.


9. Avoid talk about economics, especially if someone at the table is having economic troubles.


10. Do Be prepared. Try to cook everything possible in advance and set the table the night before.
